Ángel González, owner of Los Angeles Constructions, share his favorites tools

Whether it’s a hole in the wall, a broken window or a bathroom in need of a little attention, maintenance and repair contractors have to be ready to face different scenarios in their daily work. “More than 20 years in the construction industry have taught me that in order to be successful in this multifaceted business you need to focus on safety, organization and work ethics,” says Angel Gonzales, owner of Los Angeles Construction.

González says organization is the key to job safety and customer satisfaction. “Gaining your customer’s trust and keeping them as comfortable as possible during the process should be at the top of your list,” he says. “I make sure every job is neatly organized throughout its duration. Doing so shows your professionalism and keeps you and your customers safer."

His best advice? Take good care of your tools. “Tools are the bread winners here, and your biggest investment,” says Gonzales. “They say a lot about your work, so keep them well-maintained and organized. Proper use, care and storage will keep your tools performing at their best.”

Bostitch 2-1/2” 16 GA Straight Finish Nailer

“Great high-quality nailer for general fixing and trim work. I like that it's easy to operate and that the side loader has a small view window that allows you to see the nail supply.”

DeWalt 14.4V Cordless XRP Drill/Driver Kit

“We use this lighter cordless and portable drill for smaller jobs, although it's powerful enough that sometimes we don't need our larger drills.”

Milwaukee ¼” Magnum Drill 2500RPM

“I believe strong, durable tools make a better contractor, and this drill is all about power and performance."

Makita 7” Angle Grinder

“This grinder comes with a very powerful motor that makes it highly efficient. It’s a must-have at the jobsite for removing excess material, cutting or polishing. It has endless uses and a long lifespan.”

MSA Safety Works Sport Series Grey Lens & Black Frame

“Handling tools in direct sunlight can be dangerous, not to mention the momentary blindness when moving indoors. These safety glasses really block the light and protect me from debris.”

Stanley Mobile Work Center

“I love this toolbox because it’s very strong. It’s divided into two sections, so I can keep plumbing supplies in one area and electricity supplies in the other. It is the perfect size for my needs, and you can pull it like a suitcase wherever I go."

Durock Cement Board

“This is the best choice for areas with moisture because it's mold resistant and very sturdy, even when wet. I use it as a tile backer for showers, and for other exterior and interior jobs that get exposed to water.”
